Summer Pilot Program 2019
What was the Summer 2019 Pilot Program?
The Summer 2019 Pilot Program was our inaugural class, consisting of nine eager and intelligent young women. During this 7 week-long course, our instructors introduced lessons on creativity, cognitive science, and computer science to our students.
In tandem with class activities, projects, and group work, the students were also
treated to exclusive pop-up workshops and field trips.
By offering a space for girls to ideate innovative solutions to real world
problems, we hoped to inspire our inaugural class to become part of the
next generation of female founders.
Our first batch of leaders
The girls ranged from 7th graders to high school seniors. This allowed our teachers to focus on those who can still easily absorb new information while staying attentive for long hours during class.
Program breakdown
Each activity was designed to stimulate critical thinking and problem solving skills and focus on the core concept of the week. Homework was assigned to build on the lesson and engage the students’ minds outside the classroom.
Our students were asked to research and choose a real world problem that they would like to solve. Many of the girls chose to tackle issues like world hunger, war, climate change and renewable energy.
As their learning progressed week to week, students began to ideate solutions to their real world problems that would incorporate the core concepts and utilize their newfound knowledge.
Program partners
Our summer program would not have been possible without the help of Key Academy Charter School, the individuals who donated and sponsored, and Good Earth Natural Foods for the food sponsorship.
Our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude goes out to you.
